“Danny! What are you doing?”, asked Julia angrily. Danny has just started learning the letters. So Julia wanted to ask him a question that he cannot answer just to tease him. “I can answer all the letter sounds questions”, he said confidently. “Hmmmmm, well let’s see”, Julia said raising one eyebrow and lowering the other. She said, “only one sound appears in these three words: cat, ant, apple, What is it?”. Danny thought for a minute. Finally, he said excitedly, “it’s /a/ sound”. It was right; Julia was the one who got embarrassed now LoL…..

the a letter makes two vowel sounds. the short a vowel as in the word ‘cat, hat and ant’, and the long a sound like in ‘make and bake’. Here, we are mainly interested in the short /a/ sound until we reach phase ‘4’ ,and ‘5’. we will start teaching the kid the different forms and sounds the letter or a combination of letters can make.
