igh sound jolly phonics

Johnny was playing in the garden with his ball. He was throwing the ball to the dog and the dog has to get it. The dog was happy but he got tired. Johnny kicked the ball far this time and the dog looked at it going farther like he was going to cry. He looked back at Johnny and started to bend his legs and he sat down. “fine, I will go and get it this time”, johnny said. He ran so fast but unfortunately, he stumbled on a rock and fell on the ground. “igh, igh”, he kept saying until his mother heard him. That night, johnny spent his time in the bed, not doing anything saying “igh, igh”. he shouldn’t make his dog that tired.

2. igh sound jolly phonics pronunciation:

  • the “igh’ is pronounced like long “I” as in the words light and height.
  • To make the “igh” correctly, you need to pronounce two sounds and make a smooth connection between them.
  • Start with making the “ɑ” sound.
  • Open your mouth as wide as possible. Relax your lips and allow them to rest in a neutral position.
  • Flatten your tongue and place it very low in your mouth. The tip of your tongue should be touching the back of your bottom front teeth.
  • Next, connect the “ɑ” to the “i” sound.
  • Smoothly move your jaw up, until your mouth is almost closed, and push your tongue forward, raising it high in your mouth.
  • The first sound in a diphthong is typically longer and louder. So, make sure that you pronounce a nice and full “ɑ” and then connect it to the “i”.
